The laptops provided will ensure the UWI students can complete their studies

Caribbean Airlines Cargo recently shipped laptop computers from New York to Kingston, Jamaica for students in need at the University of the West Indies (UWI), on behalf of the American Foundation for the University of West Indies (AFUWI).

The AFUWI is a non-profit organization established to provide scholarships and develop programs to assist students in need at UWI’s four campuses.

In the light of the Covid-19 pandemic, the AFUWI partnered with the UWI Alumni Associations in New York, DC, and Florida in the USA  (UWIAA) to raise funds to purchase laptops for students who are now required to attend classes and sit exams online. Once students have completed exams, the equipment will be returned and loaned to the next cohort of students in need.

Caribbean Airlines Head of Corporate Communications, Dionne Ligoure stated: “Caribbean Airlines is delighted to support this AFUWI initiative. Throughout the pandemic, our Cargo operations continued and provided essential cargo transportation to and from the Caribbean. The laptops provided will ensure that the UWI students are able to complete their studies and as a responsible corporate citizen Caribbean Airlines was happy to offer the cargo concession to facilitate the transportation of the devices”.

The laptops were transported from Caribbean Airlines’ New York hub to its Miami station using its trucking service then moved from Miami to Kingston through the airline’s all-cargo aircraft.

“On behalf of the UWI and donors, we are thankful for the kind support of Caribbean Airlines Cargo. We were afforded a special concession on the rates, and consequently, we were able to procure more high-quality laptops for students at the UWI.” said Ann-Marie Grant, Executive Director of AFUWI.

Caribbean Airlines commends AFUWI on its good work and philanthropy and wishes the organization all the best in its future endeavors.
