Caribbean Airlines partners with the University of Guyana Diaspora and Entrepreneurship Conference

With a current enrollment of some 8,000 students, The University of Guyana (UG) has graduated more than 20,000 students who have gone on to successful careers locally, regionally and internationally. The University is also a major contributor to the national economy and to business and industry. Established in 1963 on a part-time basis with shared space at Queens College, UG moved to its own campus at Turkeyen in 1970 and expanded in 2000 with the addition of the Tain Campus. It now offers more than 120 Under-graduate and Post-graduate Programmes including the Natural Sciences, Engineering, Environmental Studies, Forestry, Urban Planning and Management, Tourism Studies, Education, Creative Arts, Economics, Law, Medicine, Optometry and Nursing. Several online programmes are available and The UG also offers extra-mural classes at four locations through its Institute of Distance and Continuing Education (IDCE). The UG also offers the opportunity for student engagement in debating, sports, and cultural, religious and professional activities.

Caribbean Airlines was the principal airline partner for the Diaspora  and Entrepreneur Conference hosted by the University of Guyana from July 21 to 25,2019.

The airline provided special concessions to customers who registered through the conference website for the conference.

Caribbean Airlines’ CEO Garvin Medera in commenting on the partnership  stated: “Caribbean Airlines is about connecting the Caribbean and this goes beyond the thousands of people we transport daily. It extends into the communities we serve, and the Diaspora is one of the most important. We are happy to support this conference which will see aspiring and established entrepreneurs from the Diaspora meet in Guyana from July 21 to 25 to collaborate and innovate, which is critical to the development of our entire Caribbean region”.

In further commenting on the alliance, Prof. Ivelaw Griffith, Vice Chancellor of The University of Guyana said: “Our partnership with Caribbean Airlines will help Diaspora members to participate in this important Diaspora and Entrepreneurship conference when they take advantage of the special fare being offered for conference travel”.

He further stated, “This conference will facilitate dialogue and spark innovative collaborations and discussions, as we engage with the Diaspora. As an authentic Caribbean air carrier with strong links to the Diaspora, Caribbean Airlines is a natural partner for the University of Guyana”.

The airline operates a minimum of 6 daily flights to and from Guyana, including non-stop service to JFK International, New York and direct service to other North American and Caribbean destinations.
