Caribbean Airlines introduces Sustainability Challenge Award, celebrates spirit of volunteerism among staff

The airlines is committed to advancing its sustainability goals and continues to reinforce that sustainability is everybody's business

On Wednesday December 03, Caribbean Airlines recognized and honoured several employees who have made positive contributions to its sustainability programme, selflessly volunteering their time to engage with secondary school students and actively take part in environment-friendly clean-up initiatives spearheaded by the company.

Additionally, the airline publicly celebrated and recognized employees from its Operations Division, who earned the distinction of capturing its first Sustainability Leaderboard Challenge Champion Award for the first half of 2025, based on their accumulated volunteer hours and participation.

The award is historic because it is the first time that Caribbean Airlines has implemented a sustainability leaderboard challenge competition, designed to sensitize employees about its sustainability programme and simultaneously energize staff participation across its ten(10) divisions.

The regional airline further honoured and celebrated nine(9) individual employees, representing various departments across the company, who have distinguished themselves as outstanding volunteers, earning the title of “Green MVP”.

In commending the Operations Division and Green MVPs, Caribbean Airlines’ Acting Chief Executive Officer Nirmala Ramai said: “I wish to express heartfelt congratulations to all of you. Despite demanding schedules, many of you have stepped forward and volunteered out of genuine interest; driven by a desire to serve, to uplift and to create positive change. This is our true Caribbean spirit in action.”

Ramai continued: “Thanks to so many of our employees who dedicate time to volunteer, on the social sustainability front, we’re deepening our connection with the communities we serve- one school and one child at a time. I’m delighted to announce that through our career caravans Caribbean Airlines has now connected with more than 100,000 students attending secondary schools across the region. That is an incredible milestone and it belongs to each of you.”

Ramai, further commended employees for making themselves available to participate in environment friendly clean- up activities spearheaded by the company and further reiterated Caribbean Airlines’ commitment to reducing its CO₂ emissions in alignment with Trinidad and Tobago’s 2030 goals under the Paris Agreement.

Caribbean Airlines extends  special thanks to the following sponsors for their support of this initiative: Kiss Baking Company Limited, Pepsi,  Flavourite Supreme, Hadco Limited and Hampers Inc Limited.
