The inaugural box cart Intercol was open to secondary schools in Trinidad and Tobago and saw students drawing on their knowledge of Science Technology Engineering, Art  and Math (S.T.E.M) to build their boxcarts. The competition was designed to bring learning to life and the initiative itself advocates for learning through sport. In the end students of Northgate College were adjudged the champions cementing their trip to Miami, courtesy Caribbean Airlines.

Gravity’ directors  reported that the ” trip was an immense success, with the entire group, made up of five  students, two teachers, three parents and  four GRATT officials, touring various places in Florida including: Lynn University,  The Cane Institute, Florida Atlantic University,  Gumbo Limbo Nature Centre, The Reef Institute  and the  Florida Power & Light” .

The Association added: “The students were also given the opportunity to make a presentation to The Weiss School where they shared their knowledge and experience in building and racing the BoxCart and the preparation of their Portfolio as part of the competition.  They presented to an Industrial Design Class run by a nationally recognized leader in STEM Education in the US and former NASA official, Mr. Stephen Portz.  We can unequivocally state that Mr. Portz was impressed by their presentation and the way the NorthGate students engaged his class in a Question and Answer section.”
